'The Whistling Teapot' café now open

Shaan and Angela will take over the cafe this January.

After more than seven years as ‘Divine and Delicious’, a new café has opened at the St Paul’s Centre.

'The Whistling Teapot’ opened for business in January serving home cooked food and drinks from 8.30am on weekdays.

The café is managed by Shaan Griffiths who has worked at ‘Divine and Delicious’ for five years and Angela Taylor who has previously worked as a chef at The Honest Lawyer, Whitworth Hall and most recently as head chef at The Coppermine in Crook.

Shaan said: “We want the customers of ‘Divine and Delicious’ to know that they’re still going to get the same experience and enjoy quality home cooked food.”

'The Whistling Teapot' is open Monday to Thursday, 8.30am-4pm, Fridays, 8:30am-2.30pm and Sunday lunches will be served from 12noon-3.30pm.

Angela added: “We very much want the new café to continue being a community place where everyone’s welcome. Our future plans include offering training for youngsters and older people to learn how to cook, so they’re not scared of the kitchen. Instead of ordering a takeaway, we want to show people how they can make something much nicer and at a fraction of the cost.”

Helen said: “I’ve really enjoyed being in Spennymoor. We’ve been supported by wonderful customers who’ve become really good friends and it’s been great being amongst the local community and the St Paul’s Centre community. We know the café is going into good hands and we are happy to be retiring knowing that our little venture will continue to thrive.”

Colin added: “It has been a fantastic experience and I’m really pleased I retired from my job and came into it. I hope Shaan and Angela try lots of different and exciting things that we haven’t done and expand the customer base even further.”
